About Us

Our Mission

Working together as a community to provide children from low income communities with the skills and support to achieve success in school and life.

Our Vision

Every child in Annapolis has the opportunity to build a bright future.

Our Story

Seeds 4 Success grew out of neighbors’ concerns about escalating crime in nearby public housing communities and the well-being of children living there. With a $500 check from the local civic association, seven women started a girls club. Right from the start, girls asked for homework help. The women soon came to understand the many challenges facing children growing up in poverty.

Today, Seeds 4 Success has grown from a grass-roots effort to a 501c3 award-winning organization with four programs listed below. (SEE TIMELINE/HISTORY)

What We Know About Youth Growing Up in Poverty

Children from low income communities are:

  • Exposed to violence, incarcerated family members, and family instability.
  • At great risk academically and less likely to graduate high school
  • Likely to repeat their cycle of poverty without intervention

Seeds 4 Success programs are specifically designed to provide academic and life skills to address unmet needs of our youth.

Program Outcomes

By providing youth and their families with academic and social skills through dedicated volunteers and after school programs, we are witnessing tremondous positive changes. Youth in our programs demonstrate:

  • Improved behavior at school and in the community.
  • New positive life experiences, like participating in the Bates Middle School Performing and Visual Arts Program.
  • New positive peer and adult relationships, including positive mentoring relationships and peer relationships among African-American and Hispanic participants.
  • Personal and family goal achievement.
  • Girls making Honor Roll for the first time.
  • Girls inducted into the National Honor Society.
  • Increased parental involvement in the lives and education of their children, including 75% attendance at parent-teacher conferences.
  • Agreement to participate in family counseling to overcome trauma, life transitions, and the effects of adult substance abuse.
