“Have you ever had a Second chance? I have and I wanted to share a part of my story with you.
Seeds for Success Is a beautiful organization that gave me a second chance to recover my
academic life and start a career. I remember I started the program more than eight years ago. I
was the first Hispanic girl in the program. They matched me with a tutor who helped me improve
my understanding of English. I went from below my grade level to taking AP classes. During
High school, I made terrible decisions that made me drop out. I pushed everyone away with my
choices, cutting communications with my family and tutor. I also ended up leaving the program.
I got pregnant at an early age. I never got to graduate. After four years of not knowing what to do
with my life, I knew that I would only have better opportunities in life if I had a degree. That is
why I decided to contact my tutor. She is the most wonderful woman I have ever known because
she led me back to Seed for Success instead of judging me or my decisions. They welcomed me
with the most beautiful opportunities: getting my GED and starting a career. My daughter is six
years old and part of Seeds for Success and the Learn program. As a young mother, raising a
little girl and teaching her all the life skills she needs is difficult.
With the support of the Learn program, my daughter has improved her reading and vocabulary.
She learned how to talk to me and tell me the way she feels without suppressing her emotions.
She also respects and understands other people’s emotions. Her name has been called in the
school’s morning announcements for helping her classmates. Seeds have helped me reinforce my
daughters’ education and emotional life. This program allows my daughter to attend summer
camps and field trips and receive Christmas gifts that I know I couldn’t afford. Seeds for Success
is a massive opportunity for her because it is a support system with wonderful volunteers who
will help me guide her educational and everyday life. The volunteers are passionate and willing
to help all the kids in the program. Without the support and donations from organizations, this
program would not exist and would not be making a difference. A second chance allowed me to
improve my life and give my daughter a better future. Imagine the difference the first chance can
make in the lives of these future generations of Doctors, engineers, and scientists.”
